Autumn is here, and it’s the perfect time to say, “I do.” especially if you love the crisp fall weather and the breathtaking colors that mark the changes of the season. Because of the rich and historical nature of our area, there are plenty of unique wedding locations right here in Ottawa, –an idea that more couples are taking advantage of. From a century old, gothic castle which is part of the Canada Museum of Nature to private historical homes and gardens, there’s something for every taste.
One thing to keep in mind when veering away from the traditional venue, is the fact that you’ll be responsible for more of the direct planning, especially when it comes to dining. In fact, one thing we hear all too often here at Kettleman’s Bagel Company, is the last minute (rather frantic) request for a catering order especially for the wedding vendors. It’s an easy thing to overlook, and if you’re big day is coming up soon you may want to double check your to-do list to make sure you’ve got this covered.
“Wait, I’m supposed to feed the wedding vendors?” This was a question we actually spotted on TheKnot.com. The answer to that question is a resounding yes! In fact, we were pretty shocked that someone had the audacity to ask the question, but then again, we understand that planning a wedding can be a stress filled event, and one in which it seems that money is being pumped out of your bank account at record speed. Sometimes we look to cut corners, but we promise you, leaving the wedding vendors hungry should definitely not be part of your budgetary cuts.
Feeding the Wedding Vendors
Actually, many of your vendors will include a meal as part of their contract, and if they will be working during the reception, food is definitely in order. Your DJ or band generally sneaks away to the kitchen to grab a bite in between sets and your photographer can do the same. But what about the others? Some of your wedding vendors won’t actually be there during the reception, but will be spending a good part of their day with you.
There’s the decorating staff, the hair and make-up artists, floral arrangement specialist, the tailor who was called in at the last minute to work with one of the dresses, the groundskeeper performing “morning of the wedding” details and others, whether enlisted on the spot or part of the wedding plan, whose stomachs are rumbling and are in need of a quick bite.
So, what’s the easiest way to offer sustenance to the wedding team? A Breakfast LoafCake Platter from Kettleman’s Bagel Company will definitely be a hit with the morning crew. It’s an assortment of our famous breakfast loaves garnished with smoked salmon. Perfection. I would suggest that, or our basic breakfast platter, which includes a variety of our shmears, cheeses, and fresh Montreal style bagels. You really can’t go wrong with finger food. It’s quick and easy, plus the salmon gives it that special touch to thank the people behind the scenes who are keeping anxiety levels low!
If you’ve got an upcoming wedding (or any event), we’d be honored to bring a touch of Old World goodness to your palettes.
