Capture6If you are a Christmas spirit enthusiast, Ottawa, Canada is the place for you. From tree lighting, to parades, to ice skating on frozen canals, Christmas in Ottawa is a dream come true.

With all of the holiday excitement, it can be hard to choose which events and activities you’re going to attend. We have compiled a list of the most magical and memorable activities you can enjoy with your families and loved ones.

Help Santa Toy Parade : It isn’t a Christmas without parades! This particular parade is special to the Ottawa community. During this event, donations of toys are accepted to make each child’s Christmas morning magical! Bring your family (and maybe some toy donations) to experience the joy of giving, and holiday spirit together.

Sleigh Rides : Have you ever been on a sleigh ride? They’re more something we see in movies than something we actually experience in real life. In Ottawa however, sleigh rides are everywhere! Because this isn’t something most people get to experience often, or ever, you should take advantage of it while you’re here! It’s makes for a romantic date night activity or a memorable family outing. Here are a few sleigh ride locations:

Free Ice Skating : Everyone loves ice skating! If you’re a talented skater you love it because it’s easy and fun, if you’re a terrible skater you love it because it’s hilarious. This is a wonderful way to spend an evening with your family. The even better part, is that it’s free! Yes, the Rideau Canal freezes over this time of year and becomes the Rideau Canal Skateway where you can skate your heart out, every day, free of charge! There is a rental fee for skates, to avoid this you’ll want to bring your own. If you plan to skate more than once, it may be cheaper to stop off at Kijiji and pick up a second hand pair.

Kettleman’s Bagel Company : This is the perfect place to stop in, warm up with a cup of coffee, and enjoy Kettleman’s special! You know how they say “America runs on Dunkin?” Well Ottawa runs on Kettleman’s. You have to experience this place at least once during your Christmas in Ottawa. Everyone loves them because their food is delicious and they make the bagels right in front of you! Definitely Ottawa’s best catering company, hands down.

Alight at Night : If driving / walking around and looking at the beautiful Christmas lights is a tradition in your home, you’ll love Alight at Night. This takes place the upper Canada village where the heritage buildings are lit up with over half a million lights! There is also a life sized ginger bread house, horse drawn wagon rides, toy train rides and more! This is definitely an event your whole family will enjoy.

If Ottawa wasn’t on your Christmas destinations list this year, it should definitely be on it next year. It’ll be the Christmas experience your family will look back on with a smile for years to come. We look forward to seeing you soon!
