holiday cardToo often Valentine’s Day is written off as a day strictly for lovers. If you’re in a relationship you go out to dinner, go dancing, be adorable. If you’re single, you go home to your box of chocolates, watch a movie by yourself and go to bed. We feel that Valentine’s Day should be celebrated whether you’re in a relationship or not. Spend it with the friends and family you love. So today we are going to give you a few tips on how to throw the best Valentine’s Day party there ever was!

Throwing an Amazing Valentine’s Day Party

Don’t be a hater: First and foremost, do not make this a Valentine’s Day hate party. No one likes to go to a party that is based off of bitterness and jealousy towards those who are in happy relationships. This is simply a party for all of your friends and / or family, in a relationship or single, to come and be spend this beautiful day together.

Decorate!: If you are throwing this party in your home, make sure you decorate. People love going to parties that seem as though they were really well thought out and planned. People don’t love wasting their time at a party that was poorly thrown together at the last minute. Especially on a holiday.

Serve drinks: Parties are more fun with alcohol! People tend to stay longer and enjoy parties more when free drinks are involved. If you don’t want to spend a ton of money on drinks for people, consider making it a “potluck” type of party, but instead of bringing food you bring alcohol. This will provide your party with a wide selection of beverages and you wont have to spend any money.

Have it catered: Rather than filling a few bowls with pretzels chips and salsa, take your party a step further and have it catered. There are many catering companies available. However, our personal favorite is Kettleman’s Bagel Company. Kettlesman’s is an Ottawa catering company and cafe with food that is to die for. Everything at Kettleman’s is made fresh and they have a wide selection of food to choose from. Whether you want to do veggie plattes, fruit and cheese, dessert or sandwiches, Kettleman’s does it all.

Play good music: Let’s face it, parties with no music are awkward. There are always those lulls in conversation when you realize how quiet it is and it makes everyone a little bit uncomfortable. So instead of having that constantly happening, create a playlist before the party. If you don’t really have what’s generally considered “good taste in music” try choosing one of the Top Hits of 2013-2014 playlists that are premade.

Good drinks, good food, good music and good company is all you really need for a fantastic party! Have a Happy Valentine’s Day this year. Don’t let the fact that you might not be in a relationship right now keep you down!
