Montreal Style BagelOn April 23rd, 2014 we shared a post on our Facebook page entitled “Gluten Rant From A Waitress“. The post was described by Joel Balsam at APT 613 as harsh and inflammatory. You know what? He’s right. It was. We posted the link to the FB page and proceeded to get a series of comments from people who were upset about it. We sincerely apologize. We make bagels most of the time, and we should have prefaced that share with a small note at the very least indicating our position on the matter a little more sensitively. We understand why some people were offended by it. The original piece was written sarcastically, comedically, and humorously from the perspective of someone working in the food service industry. The spirit of the post is something we were interested in creating dialogue about.

We think “gluten free” is more of a diet than medical requirement for the vast majority and we think people should be more informed about it. Read more

Andy Stone

Andy Stone

All of our customers in the Glebe will recognize Andy from the front counter. He’s been a valued employee at our Glebe location for 17 years and was recently promoted to general manager. He was featured recently on CBC’s All In A Day with Alan Neal. You can check out the clip here.

Alan stopped by the store to chat with Andy after one of our customers submitted his name for consideration for a piece on the show about retail employees who go above and beyond. Andy sits down and discusses his time with us, as well as some of the things that make up his day. Andy’s been a fantastic member of our team, and his work ethic shines through in the interview.

Congratulations Andy. You deserve it. We appreciate the effort you make every day. Read more

Baklava If you’ve never had a taste of Baklava, you’re missing out on a real treat. This perfectly flaky, syrupy, and sweet desert is not for those who think Biscotti is sweet. No, no, no. Baklava is the cheesecake of the pastry world. It’s that rich. One bite and you almost think you’ve had enough. One little problem, –you can’t stop. Two bites, three, and then five later. Yep, that’s just right. Okay, so I’m a big fan.

Baklava has been a favorite in Mediterranean countries for years and is made using nuts, butter, sugar, and Phyllo dough. After it has been baked to perfection, a sweet syrup is poured over the top, which becomes absorbed into the layers to create a desert so tasty it’s almost sinful. Read more
